Fast Testing After Accidents, Injuries, or Workplace Incidents

When an accident or workplace injury happens, time and documentation are critical. goMDnow provides post-accident and post-injury drug and alcohol testing for DOT and non-DOT employees with access to nationwide clinics and compliant result reporting.

Prompt testing and accurate documentation help employers protect workplace safety, meet DOT or workplace requirements, and maintain a clear incident record. goMDnow streamlines the process from ordering through certified collection, laboratory processing, and secure reporting.

When is post-accident testing used?

  • Vehicle accidents involving DOT-regulated employees
  • Workplace injuries or safety incidents
  • Company policy requirements after an accident
  • Reasonable concern that drugs or alcohol may have contributed to an incident
  • Client, insurance, or contract requirements

DOT Post-Accident Testing

DOT post-accident testing may be required in certain qualifying accidents. Employers should follow the applicable DOT agency rules, testing windows, and documentation requirements. goMDnow can help order the correct DOT drug and/or alcohol test after a qualifying event.

Non-DOT Post-Injury Testing

For non-DOT employees, post-injury or post-accident testing should follow the employer's written policy and applicable workplace laws. The testing decision should be consistent, documented, and connected to the incident circumstances.

How the process works

  1. Assess whether testing is required under DOT rules, company policy, or the incident circumstances.
  2. Order the appropriate drug test, alcohol test, or both through goMDnow.
  3. Direct the employee to a nearby certified collection site for prompt specimen collection.
  4. A certified laboratory analyzes the specimen, with MRO review when required.
  5. Authorized employer representatives receive the results securely.
  6. Store the testing records with the incident report for compliance, insurance, and audit needs.

DOT Post-Accident Testing Timing Requirements

For DOT-regulated employers, post-accident testing is triggered by specific accident criteria and must be completed within strict time windows. Missing these windows can compromise compliance.

Alcohol test
2 hrs
Must be completed within 2 hours of the accident. If not done within 2 hours, document why. Testing is prohibited after 8 hours.
Drug test
32 hrs
Must be completed within 32 hours of the accident. If not done in time, document why and stop the attempt. Results cannot be substituted.

DOT post-accident testing is triggered when a CMV accident involves any of the following:

Critical: The driver must not consume alcohol for 8 hours following the accident, or until a post-accident alcohol test is completed — whichever comes first. An employer who allows a driver to consume alcohol before testing may be found non-compliant during an FMCSA audit.
